Depending upon the location, a Buc-ee’s can offer tubing gear, beach and fishing supplies, and even a small section for hunters. YETI coolers and drinkware are usually involved.

This time next week the city of Katy will be awash in Beaver Nuggets and beef jerky as Buc-ee's opens the doors to its newest, epic-sized travel center in the area.

The new Buc-ee's will be open for business on Monday, August 28, at 6 a.m. That's when area residents and fans of megalithic convenience stores will get their first crack at the Lake Jackson-based chain's newest location, located at 27700 Katy Freeway, just over a year after it was first announced.

BEAVER LOVE: The pros and cons of the biggest Buc-ee's locations across Texas

The company normally doesn't have any big, extravagant opening day routines for new stores. They open for business and the people come.

After mastering the art of the mega-sized gas station, the people at Buc-ee's are going after the world record for the longest car wash.

Jeff Nadalo, the company's general counsel, said that it will be a 225-foot-long, tunnel-style car wash that will move vehicles on a conveyor belt system. The pricing is still being worked out for the five-minute wash, which will come with a light show inside to quell the boredom of a car wash.

Nadalo said that they are working to get the Guinness Book of World Records to come see it and verify it as the world's largest.

The Katy Buc-ee's, at the northeast corner of Interstate 10 and Cane Island Parkway will also have over 100 fueling positions so there should never be a wait to fill up. Nadalo says that the decor will be comparable to the Baytown location east of Houston.

BIG BUSINESS: Texas' biggest companies, according to Forbes

It will also come with a back-up battery power source that will service the store in the event that power is down in the area during an emergency like a hurricane.

Buc-ee's, founded in July 1982, has developed a Texas cult following for its clean restrooms, cheeky merchandise, and fresh food.

Co-founders Beaver Aplin and Don Wasek were recently profiled by Forbes for the magazine's September issue. The reporter dubbed it more of a "Texas-themed amusement park" than a place to fill up and get a cup of coffee.

In that article Aplin estimated that the price tag on the Katy location was about $17 million.

The company continues to add travel center locations including two planned to open in Florida within the next year.
