The Cleveland Cavaliers announced newly-acquired center Andrew Bogut is done for the year after breaking his left leg just minutes into his Cavs debut on Monday night.

Bogut fractured his left tibia when Miami Heat forward Okaro White collided with him near the baseline.

The Cavs acquired Bogut on the buyout market in an effort to fortify their rim protection, but those plans quickly went awry. His defense could've been a significant factor with the Cavs' second unit. He'll undergo non-surgical treatment and is expected to be ready ahead of 2017 training camp.

His recovery plan includes "an extended period of immobilization and healing stimulation," according to the Cavs.

Additionally, Cleveland announced the return of shooting guard J.R. Smith, who had been out since Dec. 20 with a broken thumb. Smith has been cleared to resume full practices and is questionable for Thursday's game at Detroit. Before the injury he'd been averaging 8.6 points on on 36 percent shooting from the three-point line. His scoring average was down from last season's 12.4.

Even with his absence, the Cavs have averaged 13.2 three-pointers, the second-most in the league behind the Houston Rockets.

The Cavs also announced that Kyle Korver was experiencing left foot soreness and is out vs. the Pistons. The Cavs are still up 3.0 games ahead of the second-place Boston Celtics but have dropped their last two.
