The Carolina Panthers Offense Explodes

Newton, besides Stewart, also performed extremely well Monday night. He had no turnovers, completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for 254 yards and four touchdowns, two of which were thrown to new leading receiver Devin Funchess. While the Dolphins may not be one of the strongest teams in the NFL, the Panthers offense and their talented core are finally stepping up and poises this team for a solid rest of the season.

Ed Dickson also played a big role in yesterday’s win. While he only made three catches for 33 yards, his tremendous blocking is what helped the Panthers establish the run game. It shows though how the Panthers ability to gain yards on the ground basically sets up how the offense plays overall. When they are able to run the ball, less pressure is put on Newton to make plays. When Newton has to make up for the ground game’s inefficiencies, he starts to force passes which results in him committing turnovers. On the field and on the bench, Newton looked comfortable. He was smiling on the sideline with his teammates, joking around as they were feeling as good as they ever have.

The defense wasn’t quite as dominant as they had been the past couple of weeks but it definitely is not a concern as their star linebacker Luke Kuechly had three tackles and an interception. The Dolphins managed to score 21 points but held quarterback Jay Cutler to only 213 yards. The defense wasn’t under nearly as much pressure though to hold a close lead like the previous weeks. It was good for the defense to finally get some breathing room.

With the offense having shown it’s true colors, this Panthers team is unstoppable. They are going into their bye week feeling great, especially with the way their offense performed. Their next game is against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, where they should be able to walk out fairly easy with a win. Greg Olsen could possibly return either for that game or the following week against the Saints, in which case, either way, the Panthers will have gotten back a very powerful weapon for their offense. Look for this team to continue their win streak and end the season fairly strong.
