Rafael Devers, just called up by the Boston Red Sox, is the youngest player in baseball. Today was only the second MLB game ever for the 20-year-old third baseman, but he has already made an impact:

Devers was 0-for-4 in his debut game yesterday, but in his first at-bat today against the Mariners, he hit one way back into center for both his inaugural major league hit and home run.

Devers’s potential is obviously thrilling, and fans of the 3B-challenged Red Sox are already swooning over him, but Boston may still try to take it slow.

Eduardo Núñez, newly acquired from the Giants, is obviously a good, experienced pick-up for the team, and Devers will probably need more time to develop. But it’s only a little bit of hyperbole to note that only two games into his career, no third baseman has produced better in a Red Sox uniform this season than Rafael Devers.
